Another wine that's drinking beautifully today is the 2000 Cote Rotie la Landonne. An upfront, perfumed, complex and ready-to-drink beauty, it offers sexy notes of smoked meats, olive, game, truffle and graphite. These give way to a full-bodied, elegant Cote Rotie that has no hard edges, a soft, forward feel and a great finish. It doesn't have the sheer weight of density of a top year, but excels on its drinkability. It's a beautiful wine.
The 2000 Cote Rotie la Mouline is an open, evolved and semi-mature example of this cuvee that has classic aromatics, full-bodied richness and no hard edges on the palate. Drinking beautifully now, with a ripe, open style, I’d plan on opening bottles over the coming decade, although I suspect it will last longer.
The medium to full-bodied 2000 Cote Rotie La Turque (which includes 7% Viognier) offers notes of espresso, Chinese black tea, plum, fig, and black currant fruit. It is undeniably a top success for this somewhat challenging vintage. It is already drinking well, and should age nicely for 12-15 years.
