The always thoughtful Romain Taupenot, who is responsible for this 13.5 ha domaine, described the 2018 vintage as "one that, much like 2017 did, has turned out to be a very nice surprise. However, the two vintages produced very different styles of wine. The 2018 growing season was much hotter and drier and to the point that we even with a very wet spring, we had a few parcels that experienced some hydric stress. Otherwise we arrived at the harvest without undue difficulty, which we started on the 4th of September with the Corton and finished with the regional parcels. The fruit was very clean and thus we had very little in the way of sorting losses. Yields were more generous compared to those of 2017 as they came between 48 and 50 hl/ha for the villages and between 45 and 47 hl/ha for the 1ers. Despite the higher than normal yields, potential alcohols were very good as well at 13 to 13.9% with 2 wines coming in above 14%. I did a relatively soft vinification and had no particular problems. As to the wines they have good power and concentration and while they're definitely riper than the 2017s, they still are quite attractive. In sum, I would describe 2018 was a very good vintage though not a great one." The Taupenot 2017s, reviewed below, are also very good and were bottled in April 201989-91 BH
